Dr. Daniel Angerbauer’s approach to preventive and lifestyle medicine draws from his worldwide travels, his exploration of different modalities—and his own personal experiences as a patient.

In his early 20s, Dr. Angerbauer endured a prolonged period of gastrointestinal discomfort, and despite seeing multiple doctors, he was unable to get a clear understanding of what was wrong and what might bring his body back into balance. He was working as a personal trainer at the time, having earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of Utah, and he noticed similar challenges in some of his clients. They were doing “everything right,” he says, but still struggling with stubborn health problems. “There’s got to be a better way,” he recalls thinking. Determined to deliver on what he knew was possible—for himself, for his clients—he decided to pursue a career in medicine.

“I’m evidence-based—and I’m also open-minded,” he says. “My personal experience has given me a lot of empathy.” Citing research that physician empathy can contribute to better health outcomes, he adds: “When people tell me something is wrong with them, I’m inclined to believe them. Sometimes their body doesn’t read like the textbook, and symptoms present in an unusual way. So we’ll investigate together and work together until they feel better.”

Dr. Angerbauer studied medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and completed his residency in preventive medicine and public health at Loma Linda University Medical Center. During his time at Loma Linda, he served as Lifestyle Medicine Chief Resident, overseeing the development of the lifestyle medicine curriculum and training. At Loma Linda, Dr. Angerbauer also earned his Master of Public Health degree.

In addition to his expertise in preventive medicine and public health, Dr. Angerbauer also has a strong interest in brain health and preventive neurology. At Atria, he brings this expertise to the Precision Prevention Program, where he oversees preventive medicine and works closely with Dr. Richard Isaacson, a top preventive neurologist and the program’s director.

Before joining Atria, Dr. Angerbauer founded Summit MD, a telemedicine clinic specializing in multimodal lifestyle and preventive medicine. He also served as a physician at Rezilir Health, delivering precision-based medical care to patients with cognitive impairment and fatiguing illnesses.

Dr. Angerbauer has pursued certifications in various disciplines that complement his board certifications, including motivational interviewing, sports nutrition and performance, and advanced wilderness life support.

Whether he’s on a month-long meditation retreat, hiking to the Everest base camp in Nepal, trekking the Cotopaxi volcano in Ecuador, or busy raising his two young children, Dr. Angerbauer embraces rich experiences that help shape his perspective on the world—and his approach to medicine.
