Dr. Hina Talib is a dual-board-certified pediatrician and adolescent medicine specialist. She is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics and of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Women’s Health at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Dr. Talib is a proud Brown University summa cum laude graduate, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. She received her Doctor of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University and served as class vice president. Dr. Talib completed a residency in pediatrics at NewYork-Presbyterian Komansky Children’s Hospital, followed by a year as Chief Resident at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Talib went on to a post-doctoral fellowship in adolescent medicine at the Children’s Hospital at Montefiore. After her fellowship, Dr. Talib completed additional training in substance abuse through the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and in child mental health through New York state’s Project TEACH.

Today, she serves as a national spokesperson for the American Academy of Pediatrics and has held leadership positions at the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine and the North American Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology.

Dr. Talib cites two factors that led her to pursue being a pediatrician. “First, being a pediatrician is in my blood. My mother is an exceptional pediatrician, skilled, compassionate, and mindfully present with her patients. She is my inspiration and my compass for my own practice,” she says. “Second, our family arrived in the U.S. when I was five years old with my younger sister, who suffered from a terminal illness. She celebrated each of her three birthdays in a hospital. Nurses, therapists, and doctors were, as I experienced it, my playmates, confidants, and my parents’ keepers. Those moments of being cared for as a family were sacred. It is my life’s privilege to care for children and families, as we once were. Even today, it is those moments, small or large, that change me the most—the moments where I can meet a family and share in the joys and challenges of children coming of age. I am the pediatrician who shows up and wholly enjoys doing so.”

Dr. Talib delights in the transition times in a child’s development. “There is an ordinary magic in development, with sparks and surprises along the way,” she says. “I help children and those in their orbit draw on their own strength to take small steps forward in their health and wellness journeys. I adore parents, and now that I am a parent myself, I understand the powerful roles that parents, family communication, and the social lives of children play in health. For teens and young adults, I provide additional expertise in eating disorders, mental health, reproductive health, and substance use. Teens have been facing too much in recent times. I empower them to own their health stories and give them the tools to thrive.”

For the past 20 years, Dr. Talib and her husband have lived in Manhattan, where they are raising their two beloved children, both of whom joined their family with the help of a surrogate after a years-long struggle with infertility. Originally from Kansas City, Dr. Talib has lived internationally, and she credits those experiences with informing her culturally sensitive approach to parenting and supporting families.
