Dr. Kiranbir (Kebbie) Josan is a board-certified cardiologist who has made it her mission to transform how patients approach their cardiovascular health. She takes a comprehensive, personalized approach to prevention, recognizing that how we sleep, what we eat, and how much we move has profound effects on our heart and the future of each person’s health.

Dr. Josan’s path to medicine began early—by age five or six, she knew she wanted to be a physician. As she learned about medicine, she was drawn to the idea of being a trusted guide for people during their most intimate and difficult moments—a drive that deepened when her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and Dr. Josan experienced firsthand just how impactful a caring provider can be.

After studying psychology at the University of Alberta, Dr. Josan earned her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario before completing her internal medicine residency at the University of Alberta and her cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia. She also completed additional training in electrophysiology, learning to implant pacemakers and manage cardiac rhythm devices.

Initially, Dr. Josan liked the fast-paced, high-intensity nature of acute cardiology. She loved being able to help people when they came in critically ill, and providing interventions that dramatically changed their clinical course and outcomes. But over time, her perspective shifted. “If we allow patients to get to this stage, we really haven't done our job,” she realized. Her focus evolved toward prevention—keeping people healthy and avoiding the need for emergency intervention.

Dr. Josan’s first position after fellowship was at Royal Victoria Hospital in Ontario, where she helped grow the cardiology division and establish their cardiac device program. In 2017, Dr. Josan moved to California to join Stanford Health Care, where she discovered her true calling in preventive cardiology. Working with the Stanford South Asian Translational Heart Initiative, she met highly driven and successful Bay Area engineers and tech leaders who were at the pinnacle of their careers but neglecting their health. She helped deliver an intensive lifestyle intervention program that used wearables, Bluetooth-compatible home monitoring devices, and frequent virtual touchpoints to provide personalized, multidisciplinary care that fit with each patient’s lifestyle.

Through this work, Dr. Josan developed deep expertise in insulin resistance and cardiometabolic health, studying how these conditions affect cardiovascular outcomes. She also witnessed the remarkable power of lifestyle interventions, witnessing patients’ cardiovascular risk factors improve dramatically when given the right tools, education, and support.

While at Stanford, Dr. Josan completed a biodesign fellowship, which taught her that the best innovations come from an unmet clinical need. “Preventive medicine is truly an unmet clinical need; we just don’t do it justice in the traditional health care system. When we help people become healthier we can really change their life’s trajectory,” Dr. Josan says.

In 2022, Dr. Josan joined Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where took on multiple leadership roles. She directed the hospital’s Cardiology Consultation Service, served as Assistant Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology, helped build the Cardio-Oncology program, and served as the Associate Director of the Cardiology Fellowship Program, which allowed her to teach regularly. “Being involved in medical education requires a physician to be the best version of themselves for their trainees and their patients,” she says. “You really have to be at the top of your game to be able to teach somebody else.”

Dr. Josan’s approach centers on taking time to truly understand each person. She knows that patients’ lives don't exist in silos—their hormone replacement therapy, chronic inflammatory conditions, cancer treatments, and even their family, work, and lifestyle all affect their cardiovascular health. “I love learning about people’s journeys, learning their story, and what makes this person in front of me who they are,” she says. Developing a relationship and building trust is crucial. “If we have trust and a rapport before I start providing patients advice that is going to require hard work and motivation, my advice is going to go a lot further,” Dr. Josan says.

At Atria, Dr. Josan collaborates with clinicians across all specialties who share her passion for prevention and cutting-edge technology, supporting both patients who have experienced cardiovascular problems and want to avoid them in the future and those who want to take action before developing disease. Dr. Josan takes a proactive approach to cardiovascular health, using advanced tools such as cardiac biomarkers, detailed lipid profiling, insulin resistance testing, and state of the art imaging to detect subclinical disease early. She empowers each patient to understand their unique risk and make informed personalized decisions to optimize their long-term cardiac health.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to help patients truly thrive,” Dr. Josan says. “There is nothing more fulfilling than supporting patients in living longer, healthier lives while preserving their vitality—that’s what keeps me coming back.”

Outside of work, Dr. Josan enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, hiking, traveling, and discovering new gluten-free restaurants in Los Angeles.
