Pediatrics
Dr. Morgan Finkel views pediatrics as the foundation of preventive medicine. “Your health as a young child impacts your long-term health trajectory,” Dr. Finkel says. “A lot of that comes down to healthy routines, nurturing early relationships, and consistent emotional support.”
As a pediatrician, researcher, and former assistant professor with more than a decade of clinical experience, Dr. Finkel is passionate about helping children thrive. She takes a practical, evidence-based approach to pediatric care, guiding families through each stage of childhood with a focus on physical and emotional development, preventive care, and healthy habits around nutrition, sleep, and physical activity.
“Pediatrics is about so much more than treating illness. It’s about building lasting relationships with families, understanding their unique needs, and giving parents the knowledge and confidence to make the best decisions for their children,” says Dr. Finkel.
Dr. Finkel earned her bachelor’s degree from Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology, and her medical degree from New York University’s Grossman School of Medicine. She completed her pediatrics residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital, followed by a fellowship in primary care research in community health at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. During her fellowship she earned a Masters of Science in Epidemiology from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health.
As an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Dr. Finkel combined clinical care with research. She provided comprehensive primary care to children from birth through young adulthood, while conducting research on early childhood sleep, parent-child relationships, and how these early experiences influence children's emotional, behavioral, and developmental well-being. Her work focused on identifying ways to support healthy development and translate research findings into practical guidance for families. She also supervised and mentored medical students and pediatric residents in the continuity clinic, helping to train the next generation of pediatricians.
Dr. Finkel’s past clinical, research, and advocacy work reflects her belief that every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Her research experience informs her evidence-based approach to medicine, helping her critically evaluate new findings and translate them into thoughtful, individualized care.
“I believe every child deserves the chance to grow up healthy, feel supported, and reach their full potential,” she says. “Through clinical care, research, and advocacy, I’ve had the opportunity to make a difference for individual families while also working to improve care on a broader scale.”
Drawn to medicine for its unique combination of science and human connection, Dr. Finkel considers it a privilege to care for children from birth through young adulthood and build lasting relationships with their families.
“One of the things I love most about pediatrics is getting to know each child and family over time, understanding what matters most to them, and being a trusted source of support as they grow.”
Outside of work, Dr. Finkel enjoys tackling the New York Times crossword puzzle with her husband, and exploring their Park Slope neighborhood with their two young children and their dog, Lilly.
